Automatic watches
Whether you are looking for your first automatic watch or want to expand your collection, we have a large collection to choose from. Automatic watches stand for tradition and craftsmanship. An automatic watch is charged by the movement of your wrist, so you will never need a battery again. View our complete collection online.
What is an automatic watch?
As the name suggests, an automatic watch has a movement that sets itself in motion without drawing energy from a battery. The technique originated in the 18th century and has been used in wristwatches since the early 19th century. There have been developments to this day, but essentially much remains the same; a self-rotating mechanism that is charged by means of the crown on the side of the case, or by movement of the wearer. Most automatic watches can run for 48 hours after charging or with enough exercise. If an automatic watch is worn daily, you never actually have to charge it.
You can recognize an automatic watch by the sweeping second hand, so unlike a watch that is powered by a battery or battery, the second hand of an automatic watch runs more smoothly due to the rotating flywheel. Because the watch is not powered by a battery, but by movement, an automatic watch is never as precise as a watch with a battery. A few minutes difference per month can easily creep in, but for many watch enthusiasts this is precisely the charm of an automatic watch.
Watch without battery
One of the best features of an automatic watch is its lifespan. Unlike a watch with a battery, an automatic watch always works. With proper maintenance, an automatic watch can last longer than the average human. An automatic watch only pauses when the wearer is not moving, this is what makes the technology so special. If the watch has been lying still for years, an automatic watch can only bring itself back to life through movement. This is different from a watch with a battery, which needs to be replaced every other year.
Watches with visible mechanism
In our collection of automatic watches we have various models where the movement is visible through the open back of the watch case. Even though this is invisible from the outside, many watch enthusiasts like to be able to view the entire timepiece. Some models also have an open heart on the dial, through which you can see part of the automatic movement. Skeleton watches are relatively new. The dial is actually formed by the timepiece. There are some beautiful skeleton models in our Fiyta collection.
A watch for the next generation
When you buy an automatic watch, you are not only buying it for yourself, but also for the next generation. The best-known example of this is the automatic watch that is passed on from father to son. Automatic watches are often given on special occasions such as a birthday, graduation or wedding day.
The long lifespan of automatic watches often makes them a nice gift to give or receive.
